An 18-year-old Idaho Springs man is accused of seriously injuring his newborn child on Monday, leaving the 2-week-old with a fractured skull and other injuries.

Prosecutors say Paul Davidson was advised of the case against him Tuesday in Clear Creek County court. He is charged with knowing or reckless child abuse causing serious injury, a Class 3 felony.

The 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said first responders found the child breathing with difficulty and bleeding from the mouth. The baby was taken to a hospital where doctors found the newborn had, in addition to the skull fracture, a broken right clavicle and other bruising.

The Idaho Springs Police Department and Colorado Bureau of Investigation investigated the case.

Davidson is being held in lieu of $15,000 bail and is next due in court Aug. 31.
